Counseling Resources

Most of us will have to deal with some form of mental illness in our lifetime. It is not embarrassing to go to the doctor for something wrong with our heart, for example, so why are we hesitant to go for something that is affecting our emotions and the way we think (brain)?  With mental wellness, we can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively, and are able to make a contribution to our community and personal relationships.

Suicide Prevention
What you can do if you think someone might be considering Suicide:
  1. Watch for warning signs: depression and hopelessness, substance abuse, giving away possessions, dramatic mood changes, intense anger.
  2. Question: "Are you thinking about suicide?"  "How would you do it?"  "When would you do it?"
    • This allows your friend to ask for help and talk openly about their feelings
    • These questions help you to know what you need to do to get them help
  3. Persuade: Talk with your friend about getting help.  Keep the conversation positive.
  4. Report: 911, SafeUT, school counselor
